Comments about Lillian Vernon Betty Crocker Cookbook and Stand:

I bought two of these stands as gifts for Christmas. I was delighted that they were made of a weighty wrought iron rather than cheaper aluminum like some are. I had no problems with putting them together, and mine sit straight! Perhaps those of you who purchaced them should try putting the washers on the outside with the rubber parts up against the outside edges. Mine sat wonderfully, even with a very large book on them. A little chipped here and there, but a little touch up never hurt any one. I would recommend putting them together before giving them as gifts, so you could give them the onceover, and they will be perfect.

Horribly Crooked and Unusable
By TracyVerified Reviewer from Orange County, CA on 1/28/2008
Cons:
Crooked, Poor quality
Describe Yourself:
Casual Cook

Comments about Lillian Vernon Betty Crocker Cookbook and Stand:

I can't believe LV is selling such a cheaply made product. [...] Once the screws are tightened, the flat holder part severely leans and once you place your cookbook on the stand, it looks ridiculous! Please, don't waste your time with this product.

Beautiful and Very Functional Stand

Best Uses:
Any kitchen any time

Comments about Lillian Vernon Betty Crocker Cookbook and Stand:

I have had other cookbook stands as I like to have my cookbook where it is easy to read and where it doesn't take up counter space. The stand is much more durable, looks beautiful, and can be used with any cookbook I own. It would make a wonderful gift, but I would put it together first. We had no problems putting ours together; it is perfect in every way!

I bought this for myself and now am purchasing one for my daughter. If you had the original, or your mother or grandmother had the original...this is a must have item!! The reproduction is exactly like the 1950's version.

Very Poor Quality
By AngelaVerified Reviewer from McKinney, TX on 10/26/2007
Cons:
Weak
Describe Yourself:
Avid Cook
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Lillian Vernon Betty Crocker Cookbook and Stand:

Was NOT strong enough to hold any cookbook I had...tightening the support resulted in a worn-through and broken piece. The cords for the page weights are made of shoestring cloth! Not the metal chains that not only looks nicer but actually hold the pages in place. I put it together and returned it the next day.

I'm split

Pros:
Heavy, Looks great, Usefull
Cons:
Leans
Best Uses:
Small Kitchens
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Lillian Vernon Betty Crocker Cookbook and Stand:

This is a great looking stand and is nice and heavy. But, like some of the other reviewers, I find it leans after assembling it. With some fiddling with it I was able to minimize, but not eliminate the leaning. My only other complaint is that the weights are not quite heavy enough to keep larger bound books open. But overall I am enjoying having my cookbooks in a position easier to read and away from food splatters.

Would not recommend it!

Comments about Lillian Vernon Betty Crocker Cookbook and Stand:

It looked good in the catalog but once I received it I was very disappointed. It sits crooked on the counter, it won't hold a cookbook properly, the paint is chipped, too short - generally not worth it.

Too cumbersome and floppy
By Sue from VAVerified Reviewer from Springfield on 9/27/2007
Pros:
Pretty
Cons:
Cumbersome, Non-functional
Best Uses:
Large Kitchens
Describe Yourself:
Casual Cook
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Lillian Vernon Betty Crocker Cookbook and Stand:

Too many pieces to this stand. You have to screw together the stand base to the swivel unit, and attach those pieces to the cook book frame. The swivel does not stay put unless you screw the toggle bolt almost too tight. The rubber ring-washers are of poor quality and do not allow the book frame to sit steady with a heavy cookbook on it. Can't get the correct slant to the book. I would recommend going back to the drawing board with this product before releasing it again. Not worth ANY price. Unfunctional, to say the least

This is the second one I purchased. Got one for myself and use it all the time. This was a bridal shower gift for my new daughter-in-law. Not crazy about the lean, but it is doable. Holds my place in the book and keep book off counter-out of the way.

Comments about Lillian Vernon Betty Crocker Cookbook and Stand:

I have not even been able to use it as of yet. Put it together no problem. The rubber ring (seal)on the tilt adjustment will not tighten enough to even hold the book platform at any angle. Tryed without the seal, not much better.

Cons:

Comments about Lillian Vernon Betty Crocker Cookbook and Stand:

This item is worthless. The base of the stand does not hold the cook book holder part on at all. I tried a longer screw-didn't work. If you found someone to weld the two parts together, then maybe it would work. The cook book holder doesn't stand up on it's own very well. My stand is collecting dust and will be thrown away soon. [...] YOU DO NOT WANT TO BUY THIS COOK BOOK STAND!!!!

Not sturdy
By Internet Shopping ProVerified Purchaser from Spfld, MO on 7/26/2007
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Lillian Vernon Betty Crocker Cookbook and Stand:

Looks ok from a distance (though mine came with some of cheap paint chipped off) but it will not stay put. It always slants to the right as they cheap washer etc keeps slipping. From reviews it sounds like some received a higher quality product than the rest of us. I don't think mine will last long.

I was disappointed in the quality as it appeared sturdy in the picture but it wouldn't hold a larger cookbook. Also, I was going to use on an island but the back side was not something that should be shown - probably due to the fact that the paint was chipping and it was rusted.
